01What this covers
Three different kinds of money move through FreelanceKar, and they are treated differently:
- Escrow funds — money a client has put in for a project.
- Wallet balance — money a freelancer has earned, or a client has left over.
- Subscription fees — money paid to us for an optional plan.
02Money held in escrow
Escrow funds remain the client’s money until a milestone is released. Money held in escrow that is not released to a freelancer is returned to the client's platform wallet, from where it can be withdrawn.
- Project cancelled before any work is approved — the full funded amount returns to the client’s wallet.
- Some milestones released, others not — released amounts are final; the unreleased balance returns to the client.
- Disputed milestone — the amount is held until the dispute is decided. Disputes are reviewed by the platform, which may release, refund or split the disputed amount. The decision and the reason are recorded against the project and shown to both parties.
From the wallet, money can be withdrawn to your bank or UPI. Withdrawals are confirmed by one-time password.
03Money already released
Once a client approves a milestone and it is released, the payment is final and we do not reverse it. The freelancer has done the work and been paid for it.
If you believe a release was obtained by fraud, contact grievance@freelancekar.com. We will investigate, though we cannot promise recovery of funds already withdrawn.
Our commission on a released milestone is refunded only where we reverse the release itself.
04The security deposit
The 25% security deposit is returned to the client’s wallet when the project completes normally. It is not a fee and we do not keep it.
Where a client abandons a funded project, up to 20% of the affected amount may be paid from it to the freelancer as compensation. The rest is returned.
05Subscriptions
- Cooling-off period. You may cancel a new subscription within 7 days of the first payment for a full refund, provided you have not used a paid-only feature in that time.
- Cancelling later. You can cancel at any time. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew. We do not refund part-months.
- If we change the price, the change applies at your next renewal. If we materially reduce what a plan includes mid-term, you may cancel and receive a pro-rata refund.
06Failed and duplicate payments
If money left your account but did not appear on FreelanceKar, it is usually still with the payment provider and reverses on its own within 5 to 7 working days.
If it has not, write to support@freelancekar.com with the date, amount and payment reference. Genuine duplicate charges are refunded in full.
07How to ask for a refund
- Cancel the project or subscription in the product where you can — that returns escrow money to your wallet immediately.
- Otherwise email support@freelancekar.com from the address on your account.
- Include the project code or payment reference, the amount, and what you are asking for.
- If you are unhappy with the outcome, escalate to grievance@freelancekar.com.
08How long refunds take
- To your FreelanceKar wallet — immediately.
- Wallet to bank or UPI — usually 1 to 3 working days after approval.
- Back to a card — 5 to 10 working days, set by your card issuer, not by us.
- Refund requests we review manually — decided within 7 working days.
We will tell you when a refund has been issued. Time taken after that is your bank’s.
